My Way News – Saddam's loyalists in Syria blast US
My Way News reports: “Supporters of Iraq’s late dictator Saddam Hussein gathered in Damascus Thursday to denounce the U.S. ‘occupation’ of Iraq and demand that his loyalists unite. About 500 Saddam loyalists, including members of his outlawed Baath Party, vowed to continue their support to what they called ‘Iraqi national resistance,’ a term they widely use to describe Iraqi insurgents attacking only U.S. forces.”
My Way News – Egypt rejects claims that it gassed Gaza tunnels
My Way News reports: “The intelligence official confirmed that Egyptian security forces destroyed the entrances to several tunnels this week, but said that no gas was used in the operations. He said that Egypt routinely blows up the mouths to the tunnels to seal them off, and that the blast and an ensuing fire could quickly use up all the oxygen in the confined space, causing people caught inside to suffocate.”
My Way News – UK police: We had July 7 bomber's fingerprints
My Way News reports: “British police acknowledged Thursday that they had long held the fingerprints of one of the Islamist suicide bombers who blew themselves up in the July 7, 2005 attacks on London’s transit network [...] security officials acknowledged that agents had trailed Sidique Khan more than a year before the attacks. He was also heard in several bugged conversations with other known radicals pledging to carry out violence against non-Muslims, and intelligence agents even planted a tracking device on his car.”
Comment: And so naturally, they did nothing. Yes, that makes sense, right? Gross incompetence and criminal negligence.
My Way News – Belgium bans burqa-type dress in public
My Way News reports: “The law’s author, Daniel Bacquelaine, a Liberal, said a burqa is incompatible with basic security as everyone in public must be recognizable and clashes with the principles of an emancipated society that respects the rights of all [...] France has the largest Muslim population, an estimated 5 million, or 7.5 percent of the population, followed by the Netherlands with 6 percent, Germany with 5 percent, Austria with 4.2 percent, Belgium with 3 percent and Britain with 2.7 percent, according to a 2009 study of the Pew Research Center in Washington.”
My Way News – India, Pakistan leaders agree on new peace talks
My Way News: “The prime ministers of India and Pakistan agreed Thursday to resume peace talks between their top diplomats and work toward rebuilding trust shattered by the deadly 2008 Mumbai terror attacks that New Delhi blamed on Pakistani militants.”
My Way News – South Korea ship sinking may be perfect crime for North
My Way News reports: “For North Korea, the deadly sinking of a South Korean warship a month ago may end up being the perfect crime. Investigators have yet to produce proof that North Korea engineered the ship’s demise, but analysts say even if they do, Seoul won’t risk triggering another costly war by striking back militarily.”
Jerusalem Post – Watchdog: BBC biased against Israel
The Jerusalem Post reports: “A report to be published on Wednesday by a media monitoring organization says that the BBC’s coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for the first quarter of 2010 was steeped with an anti-Israel bias [...] ‘Despite BBC claims to be objective and impartial, we routinely find that its choice of stories are highly selective, focusing on Israel as an obstacle to peace while ignoring or downplaying issues such as Palestinian incitement or glorification of terror,’ Plosker [the editor] said.”
Comment: I’d have to say that I agree with the report. As a consumer of a broad range of news sources, I’ve always found the BBC to be very pro-Palestinian. Not, as the report notes, in an overt manner, but more in the spin that it gives to reports. The BBC will report every Israeli action in a negative light, but not report at all or downplay the many Palestinian missile attacks on Israel, as if to say, “that’s ok, they’re Palestinians, that’s just what they do.” But how can one take seriously the peaceful intentions of one side when that side continually launches attacks on civilians? When Israel attacks, they attack military targets. But the BBC doesn’t care, they have bought into the Palestinian narrative of being victims. Their myopic view does not include any historical narrative longer than a decade or two, if it did, it would have to acknowledge the history of Israel and the region, which does not lend itself to Palestinian claims, and the terrorist origins of the modern Palestinians (I say “modern” to distinguish them from the historical Palestinians who were Jewish). People of conscience should still defend Israel even though it may be a losing battle, as BP suggests that the world will turn more and more against Israel as the time comes for a false peace to be imposed and for armies to march on Jerusalem. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
My Way News – Hezbollah slams Gates' remarks over weapons
My Way News reports: “A Hezbollah official on Wednesday slammed comments by the U.S. defense secretary accusing the militant group of having more weapons than most governments in the world, and pledged to continue arming [...] Israel has accused Syria of providing Hezbollah with Scud missiles, which have a greater range and can carry a much bigger warhead than the rockets Hezbollah fired at Israel in the past.”
My Way News – Egypt convicts 26 of spying, plotting attacks
My Way News reports: “An Egyptian court on Wednesday convicted 26 men of spying for the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah and plotting attacks in Egypt, and gave them prison sentences ranging from six months to life [...] Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has admitted to sending an agent to supervise weapons shipments to Hamas in Gaza, but he has denied seeking to undermine Egypt’s security.”
My Way News – Hamas says Egypt kills 4 tunnel smugglers with gas
My Way News reports: “Israel and Egypt have kept Gaza’s official border crossings closed since Hamas seized control of the coastal strip in 2007 [...] Egypt has stepped up a crackdown on smuggling in recent months, blowing up numerous tunnel entrances on its side of the border, setting up checkpoints in the area and confiscating contraband. Since December, Egypt has also been building an underground steel wall to block the tunnels.”
Comment: The Palestinians, so peaceful, anyone can see it. It looks like this concerted action has helped to reveal just how peaceful they are by cutting off weapons supply routes and arresting arms dealers.
My Way News – Pakistan: Militants, troops clash in N. Waziristan
My Way News reports: “Suspected militants attacked a paramilitary checkpoint Wednesday in a region where Pakistan has resisted U.S. pressure to wage an offensive against Islamist extremists, intelligence officials said. Four insurgents died and one soldier was wounded.”
