You’re right – you do need the sunshine. Unless your live in some godawful place like Seattle or Moscow, there is still plenty of the sunshine you’re craving even if it is cold outside. If you do have winter sun, just dress warm and take a long walk at least every other day when it’s sunny. I’ve got painful arthritis just about everywhere that’s aggravated by the cold, but even in my case just moving my limbs soothes the aches and you’ll be amazed at how warm you’ll feel after only 3-4 minutes of walking – as long as the temperatures not much lower than 30 F. It’s the sun’s rays alot of people are craving, but sitting behind glass in your car or home won’t cut it; the UV rays are blocked by the silica in glass.
As a last resort, there are specal lamps made that duplicate the entire spectrum of natural sunlight, and if you just sit under one for 20 minutes a day I understand the results are almost unbelievable. My sister bought one a few years back, and within two weeks she quit all the bs antidepressants she’d been prescribed and has never taken any again.
Of course exercising, like walking – you don’t need to run or do calisthenics – outdoors has been proven to be about 5 times more effective than antidepressant medications as well, wish I could find the journal papers for specifics. So if you can, get outside and take some long walks in cold sunshine if you have it; if not seriously consider a full spectrum light you can put over or next to your favorite chair or desk; just do a google search for ‘full spectrum’ ‘lamp’ & ‘SADD’ , which by the way stands for Seasonal Affective Depression Disorder.
Good luck.
I hate to tell you this, but it’s not even Winter yet.
Since your boyfriends gone till Spring, I could always play the innocent, naive pizza delivery boy? LOL
Or the best idea is to take up a musical instrument….guitar or ukulele…great fun.
Winter blues is often from a deficiency in Vitamin-D. Take a good daily multiple vitamin and also a Calcium Citrate with Vitamin-D.
Get some exercise. Exercise is the “silver bullet” for the blues!
Get John Lee Hooker “make it funky” on and MAKE IT FUNKY!!! Put some thin lizzy on and remember the boy will be back in town…
Hold out until spring.
That’s all you can do baby.
Hold out till spring.
No, I don’t mean maybe.
Just hold on till sping-time come.
Read a warm book about the summer time that will remind you of the sun. Such as… Looking for Alaska by John Green.
