need to use a metal cutting drill bit…….power drill…..and a tip it to take a small nail and make a little punch with the nail in the metal first where u want the hole……this will help to keep the drill bit from ” walking” away as u try and drill…..

A self tapping screw is probably your best bet. Use a screw bit in your drill and place the screw where you want. I usually pull the trigger lightly till the screw starts to bite then pull the trigger fully till the screw sets.

  3. CBD says:

Use a drill bit meant for use with metal in an electric drill.

  4. ed says:

Once the location of the hole is determined, use a punch, or a nail will do, and tap an indentation at that spot. This will prevent your drill bit from sliding.
Then use a regular metal bit, of a size slightly smaller than the screw.
Be sure to use metal screws and not wood screws.

There’s probably a better way to mount the air conditioner than having to attach it to the window frame. You really should avoid doing anything to the window in my opinion. A handyman would have a lot of other solutions to mounting the air conditioner.

  6. it's your own fault says:

you can always go buy “self tapping screws”. They create the hole as they are screwed in. Might wanna use a drill and screw attachment to get them in there.

  7. voxniner says:

you’ll have to use the proper bit – in this case a metal bit. Use a high torque low-speed setting so you have better control of the depth for the punch. once you punch through, use a high speed low torque setting, and gently run the bit back and forth in the hole a couple of times to smooth out and remove any flash (sharp bits).

  8. gary says:

Use a smaller bit hss first to make a pilot hole, take it easy will snap else. Then use the right sized hole. Would be better to tap a thread and then screw a screw in. Use a bit of cutting compound if necessary.
