I just got myself a new laptop, and I want to transfer my music from my old computer to this new one. I tried putting it on a flash drive and that didn’t work. And I tried somehow converting it from my ipod to my new computer but that didn’t work either. I’m probably doing something wrong, and maybe theres even an easier way?
If you have a flash drive (of a capacity to hold all your music) you should be able to transfer them to your new laptop.
Open your flashdrive in the old computer. Now assuming you have your music stored in folders, take and drag the entire folder into your flash drive window. You will know they are transferring because a message window tells you it’s copying. You know the files are copied onto the flash if you can see them in the window.
Now, unplug your flash drive, plug it into the USB in your laptop and open it up. Drag and drop the files onto your laptops desktop (just so you know they’ve been transferred). And there ‘ya go. Your music should be on your new laptop.
This is the method I use to transfer files to my sons computer instead of using the Network sharing folder. And while we are on that subject, if your old computer is routed to your new laptop, you can also transfer the music files by sharing them in the Network Sharing folder.

Do you have gmail.
If you are using gmail and browser firefox, you can install a firefox plugin : Gspace
Once you registry your Gspace you can upload all your music to Gspace from the old computer. Download the music again from there to your new computer.
And you can keep a copy at Gspace whenever you need them again.
