Learn the style you want to play.
Learning classical first won’t give you any advantage when learning other styles of music.

get a steel string acoustic, get a chord book, learn all your major and minor ,7th,chords,and sharp chords, the steel strings Will toughen up your fingers, the chords are all the same ,after you are able to change form chord to chord, then go to a music store, tell them what you know , what you want to play and they can let you try out a classical guitar(remember the neck will be about one half an inch wider) but on the good side you will be playing with nylon strings.try a electric – the neck is thinner and less wide , talk to people and ask them the pros and cons. mainly it depends on what you want to play. but first you need to learn the chords , then go take some lessons, watch other guitar players ,then pick their brains, most will help. gl – i have been playing 43 years, i play electric and acoustic , mainly because i play rock ,blues, and folk music.I could pick up a classical guitar and play it almost as well ,but the sound it gives is not what i want . it is a matter of personal preferences.LEARN YOUR CHORDS ! you can make a choice about the type of guitar after you can play the basics, already have a classical guitar ,no problem , the chords are the same, after you learn the chords , reading music and guitar tabulator will be easier to learn. also get a digital tuner.

A classical guitar has a thicker neck with the strings slightly wider apart. As such it can be more forgiving if you badly finger the chords because there is less chance of closing or muting the wrong string.
And a classical guitar has nylon strings rather than metal, which are kinder on the fingers.
I’d learn on a metal-stringed acoustic guitar – the narrower fret board means you will learn how to get your fingers on the right strings more accurately and those metal strings will start toughening up those tender finger tips!

for the fingertips, it is certainly easier to learn on nylon strings before steel. but really….what do you want to play…if you want to learn classical, then get yourself a nylon strung, and get learning Classical Gas, Mozart etc etc…if its rock/blues/folk etc…then get a steel string acoustic/electric…yes your fingertips will be a little sore at first, but do say, an hour of practice a day, then after a couple of weeks do a bit more, and more. But if you really don’t want to learn classical, then dont. Personally I love it all, and have a bigger collection of guitars now than I thought I would!

I think its better to learn the acoustic/classic guitar first.
It helps your fingers to develop on holding the strings down, when you get the electro…it will be easier.
So, you can get a electro/acoustic, or acoustic then electro later.
    Its all up to you.

I’m guessing you mean as opposed to buying an electric and learning with that, I’d buy an electro – acoustic as for the type of music find a good teacher who will teach you scales alongside the type of music you enjoy!!
    Have fun!
