I am planning music for my wedding, and I love music like Trans-Siberian Orchestra, but that music is just a little harder than what I would like to play. I would like the emphasis to be on the orchestral elements with a strong undertone of rock, perhaps with specific instruments like electric guitars. Thanks!
I’m not sure if this is what you’re asking for but there’s a band called “Apocalyptica”, they use the cello and the electric cello. A lot of their songs don’t have vocals, the ones that do are all sung by different vocalist.
Hope this helps.

Offertorium and Epica both have full choirs and orchestras. It’s a lot like opera or classical music, but it has both a female and male, one with a soft voice the other harsh. Altogether Epica’s music is extremely eclectic. Offertorium is more opera and classical than they are metal but they still definately have roots in metal and more gothic type toons. Great stuff, and very much like the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, but more rock just like you want.
Maybe a bit of Meat Loaf? Certainly has the dramatic effect of TSO, with a bit of that “love song” vibe, and big orchestrations. =)
Novbember Rain might make for a nice slow dance. =)
Those are the only 2 that come to mind at the moment. Apocalyptica certainly deserves a listen, but TSO is very unique. You could go toward EDmerson, lake, and Palmer (i.e., Karn Evil 9, 1st Impression, Part 2), but that might be a bit too “old school” in comparison to something like TSO’s music.
Congrats on your wedding and best wishes!
Nightwish, I highly suggest them, they have bass, electric, drums, keyboard, female vocalist, they are referred to as being a metal band, but they are also classical. They better yet, are known as Symphonic Metal, they use orchestras a lot. I highly suggest them! I suggest the songs Meadows of Heaven, Nemo, The Islander, Ocean Soul, Ever Dream, and Feel For You as your first songs, they are truly amazing. There are more songs, but these in my opinion best fit what you are looking for. They have like, 100 songs over 12-13 years so… Enjoy! Check there site if you want. http://www.Nightwish.com
This might not be exactly what you’re asking for but I think it would be great for what you want to do…Highland Wedding by Steve Morse. It’s a great song by an amazing guitarist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=An13d0qUc…
Off the top of my head, another would be End of the Beginning by Jason Becker. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDHqeVBGz…
Epica is a good band that mixes the two, in particular you might want to check out the album ‘The Score’, a completely instrumental album. Also the song ‘Trois Verges’.
check out this its kind of…..sweet you might like ithttp://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1491516901670441597
