Well, the “classical fairy tale” usually finds its origin in northern european/celtic folklore, and since those ancient cultures were usually homophobic, viewing sex with a man as a way to subjugate him rather than love him, there probably are very few if any where the hero is gay.
ON THE OTHER HAND: Greek and Roman mythology is full of gay heroes…or at least BI heroes, and love stories between men (and between women), and classical mythology is just “southern european folklore”, and so could be considered “fairy tales.”
Also, homosexuality has been around since before human beings existed as a species! So, while it may have been “prohibited”, it was certainly practiced ;o)
Yes.
They don’t call them FAIRY tales for nothing
I don’t think so…but I’ve been wondering about prince charming for a while now lol. I’m pretty sure that the makers of the fairytales would have had to have had SOME gays behind the scenes. So maybe the characters aren’t gay themselves, but they might have influences? Idk
I’m sorry I can’t be of more help
Austin:
I don’t know either but what I can’t understand is why you would want to find another negative aspect to being gay. by looking in childhood fairy tales.
Eunuchs? I might call all of the seven dwarves gay. I mean they’re seven elderly men who live alone together, and then when the “fairest beauty of them all” shows up their like “meh.” I don’t know. You could write a gay fairy tale.
I don’t know about classical fairy tales, but a modern Gay Fairy Tale is on http://www.gaysandslaves.org.
