I’m a young pianist who has been playing for abut 7-8 years now.
I’m looking for anything that has a sort of Bobby Darrin/Ray Charles feel to it. I’ll even accept a book containing music from said artists, as long as its not something simple.
I apologize for the tough question. I’m simply stuck on what to buy, since music books these days are so expensive.
I don’t know much about fake books since I don’t play any instruments, but I’m part of a 16 person premier jazz choir at my school starting in August. Before school starts up, our conductor is holding a retreat for all members from August 11-13, and he wants all of us to have at least 3 solos of jazz standards ready to be presented during the retreat. He recommended buying a fake book of jazz standards the last time the whole group was together. Anyone have any good suggestions?
I am trying to figure out the title of a book someone recommended to me. I think it is called “The Secret Life of….”, can’t remember the rest. But the premise is that this average working family man lives a boring life but at night, he sneaks out of his house and assumes the persona of an amazing jazz piano player and gigs all over town. Anyone know the name of the book?
thanks!
The book is about a young girl who is learning how to play classical music on the piano. However, one day she sees a man playing jazz and then that is all she wants to play. Her family is disapproving of this and tell her she has to stop. She responds by not playing piano. Eventually a conclusion is worked out where she can play both classical and jazz music.
