Hi guys,
I am a beginner guitarist. I just emailed the leader of a band asking him to tell me which key they play a certain song in. He emailed me back saying that they play the song with a guitar tuned to an open Dbm chord. I do not understand how to tune my guitar to an open Dbm chord. Can someone explain to me how to do it and why sometimes a guitarist would tune their guitar to a diffent chord?

I’m really just looking to build my vocabulary of music theory. I figure if I start getting a whole lot of progressions I can start linking chords together in fresh ways. I’m also working on building on my arpeggio shapes. I know all the basic major, minor, maj7, m7, dominant 7, half-diminished 7 and so on, but I need to really build on this stuff to get music theory out of my head and into my hands.

I am currently taking free piano lesson on http://www.zebrakeys.com and i have a hard time figuring out what the 12 Bar Blues Chord Progression is or why it is used. If you chose to go tho the website it is lesson 11.

Ok so if i’m supposed to go to a aeolian mode when the chord progression is based around the sixth chord in the key, then which scale degrees sound best with a blues scale?

I’ve been messing around with jazz chords lately and found that progrssions involving Cmaj7 Gmaj7 Em7 and Am7 sound good. what are some others?
