Just takking a stab at this question. I am not a musician.

What would be a good blues or jazz piece to learn on piano?

I’m not a big jazz fan – I can recognize Satchmo, and I like S. Bechet, some B. Goodman (sing, sing, sing!!), Fats Waller, Cab Calloway.
But, the big band music recorded since 1980 has no bite, so little spirit. It’s like a muzak version of 1920s and 1930s big band music.
Am I a fuddy-duddy, am I missing something, or is that why big-band music is not very popular anymore?

and i sort of would like to stay clear of the Kenny G’s and Maynard Fergeson’s I don’t consider them Jazz.

I have seen some really nice blog pages that makes mine look plain and boring. Can somebody please tell me what to do to make it look nice and interesting. I am only able to use the background available on the page but i see some people with exceptionally nice background and all.

Do you jazzers use flat wound string and if yes why do you use them.
