I would like to eat in a nice restaurant with some close friends on New Years Eve in London, and would also like there to be chilled out music to listen to whilst eating e.g. jazz etc. Has anybody got any recommendations? I just want to be able to relax, eat, drink and chill out. Thanks in advanc4e.

I am thinking of opening a place that serves great gourmet coffee and features live music, mostly jazz, some accoustic folk, and possibly a songwriters circle open mic. Some people say that they wouldn’t go out to hear music if they can’t have a drink.Others tell me that Jazz doesn’t attract a large audience and turns some people off. Some say there are too many good coffee places already. I would appreciate your thoughts.

The two criteria are 1. How good they are 2. How likely they are not to be around much longer. Please put your lists in rank order.

Jazz of the 50’s and 60’s is preferred – but love it all from Louis Armstrong to Chick Correa.

I’m not of legal age for consuming alcohol, which removes a large amount of bars and lounges, but I was wondering if anybody knew of a nice coffee shop that has live music, preferably jazz.

On many jazz recordings I hear by the great classic jazz pianists, they’re talking while they’re playing, not really trying to be heard by the audience. It’s more like they’re talking to themselves, like it helps them get “into the music.” What’s this all about? Are they just “being cool”? Or is it a trendy thing that they started doing, because one artist did it and they ALL wanted to imitate him?
