In general, what modes do I use to solo over what chords in Jazz? Basically, what are some basic chords for each different mode that sound good when soloed over using that mode? And how do I tell what chords sound good with what mode? I am a guitarist.
I am going to audition for jazz band next year as ether a guitarist or bassist, while still switching between that and the saxophone. Can anyone please tell me the scales, chords, and modes I need for both guitar and bass? If you tell me I will look them up! (I would also like to know some cool songs to play in jazz).
I know about all the different modes (ionian, lydian, phrygian, etc), but how are they actually used in music? I mean, if someone was writing a song, they wouldn’t just randomly throw in a scale or something, so how are modes actually used in music?
