I want to move away from playing blues all the time, and I need some new inspiration. I’m starting to get more into playing avant garde classical music more than anything – but I like to mix genres together also. Mostly I solo alone. I’m trying to compose long, interesting harmonica solos that stay interesting the entire duration of the solo.
Can you recommend any albums for me?

Willi Burger and Toots Thielmans do interesting stuff. Of course, there’s lots of rock music. Try these:
Greatest Hits, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
Songs You Know by Heart, Jimmy Buffett.
1962-1966 (The Red Album), The Beatles
Big Shot in the Dark, Timbuk3
Eden Alley, Timbuk3
Sam Hinton’s Master of the Solo Diatonic Harmonica http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/samhinton
RIP Sam Hinton
We used to listen to J Geils first few albums back on the big island. Magic Dick is a great harmonica player. Try Bloodshot.
Anything by Toots Theilmans.
