um…yeah…I just have a textbook that says: “Only in the eastern Mediterranean did a classical empire survive. The eastern half of the Roman empire, known as the Byzantine empire, withstood the various problems that brought down other classical societies and survived for almost a millennium after the collapse of the western Roman empire in the fifth century C.E.” so I was just wondering
The Eastern Empire was created when Diocletian separated the Roman Empire into East and West. As a result, it was spared from barbarian invasions in the west and had its own rulers, government and urban areas. It was ultimately able to maintain steadfast until the Muslim invasions.
You are quoting it out of context .I think it is with respect to the Western Roman Empire and not all classical empires/societies .
The title for longest surviving ancient empire unfortunately goes to the Egyptians . They lasted for nearly 3500 odd years .Thats three and a half millenia
im not sure.
