   Classical Philosophy covers a wide range, in addition to the Platonic school there were the Epicureans, the Cynics, and the Stoics, as well as a wide range of lesser known schools of thought and that’s just the Western European. There are also schools of Classical Philosophy that originated in India and China that are much older than those. Any Philosophy is primarily shaped by the cultural and historical circumstances in which the given Philosopher lived and by his own character and interpretation of their meaning. Just as an example Aristotle was a student of Plato, and Plato was a student of Socrates, but their works and methodologies were very different due to the different circumstances in which the grew up and lived. If your instructor had a specific set of criteria I don’t know what they might have been.
