that depend on what you’re trying to learn
if you want to be completely baffled about what you can do with a guitar you have to pick up the complete works of robert johnson that man really knew his way around a guitar
if you are looking into some traditional work Son house and leadbelly are always good
John lee hooker is a must for improvisation
bb king is a must for his sound
elmore james is the king of using a slide
stevie ray vaughn is good to learn how fast you can get with a guitar
etc etc etc
Robert Johnson is a must grab his complete collection it is a couple of discs and totally worth it.
Muddy Waters is great
But as far as an intro goes def start with Robert Johnson the young man who reportedly played alright then showed up a couple of months later playing like nothin no one had ever seen before. Yes sir he is the man behind the legend of the crossroads (you know the one Eric Clapton sang about) it is actually Robert’s song, Travelling Riverside Blues covered by Zeppelin is Robert’s song and the movie crossroads (not the one with Britney) features a character Willie Brown who claims to be the very same one in the song:)
Well hendrix and clapton both hold ZZ Top’s billy gibbons in VERY high regard so don’t ignore them…just make sure it’s 70’s ZZ Top or Mescalero you listen to.
But a real top man as others have said I’m sure would be robert johnson. BB King can’t be overlooked either. He was the first to play an electric guitar like it easn’t an acoustic in the eys of many.
Once upon a time there was a musician named Mike Bloomfield.
He did a album for Guitar Player Magazine. It was a instructional album titled (If You Love These Blues). It turned out to be a big hit and i think it would be the best thing for you to check out.
Seriously it,s what you want.
anything by Rory Gallagher to be honest is pretty damn good.

The first pieces of Blues I ever heard. This is were it all began for me.
A few years later, and I now have facial hair, a deeper voice, but I still have a addiction to the Blues. Damn this compilation!
Check out some of the “modern” blues musicians. Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Joe Bonnamassa, Jonny Lang, Lance Lopez, Gov’t Mule, etc. All great options with differing styles.
John Mayall and The Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton (aka “The Beano Album”). And anything by Stevie Ray Vaughan.
stevie ray vaughan has some good albums
and cream has some really good albums too.. the best ones for
guitar solos would be the live ones
bb king is good too
ANY Stevie Ray Vaughan album, along with some BB King.
go to youtube and type in lightnin hopkins, he was a great guitar player, there are so many……..
anything by son house, robert johnson, or skip james
i always enjoyed ….Jhon lee hooker – the healer.
