There are 4 red, 6 brown, 9 green, 3 red, 1 orange, and 2 yellow M&Ms. I have to find the classical probability of drawing 2 M&Ms of the same color, without replacement.

  1. Awms A says:

Number of ways to get 2 blue: 4C2 = 6
Number of ways to get 2 brown: 6C2 = 15
    … 2 green: 9C2 = 36
    … 2 red: 3C2 = 3
    … 2 orange: 1C2 = 0
    … 2 yellow: 2C2 = 1.
Number of ways to get 2 M&Ms of the same color:
    6 + 15 + 36 + 3 + 0 + 1 = 61
    Number of ways to get 2 M&Ms: 25C2 = 300.
    ——
Probability of drawing 2 M&Ms of the same color:
    61 / 300
    which is about .2033

I think you made a typo on your question.
You said there are 4 red M&Ms.
Then you said there are 3 red M&Ms.
    I think maybe you meant 4 blue M&Ms or 3 blue M&Ms?
I cannot answer the question correctly until this typo is fixed.

  3. John says:

That would depend on which color you were talking about.
