The person in question said this with utmost certainty. Furthermore, I questioned said person on whether or not she thought her statement was rational, and she said “well, of course it is rational. You like jazz so you must be hiding romantic feelings. Everyone says that. There’s nothing illogical about it.”
I’m just wondering whether I am being irrational myself in thinking her to be a complete ninny.
Different kinds of music can evoke different emotions, but I dislike totally broad statements such as this. Jazz is considered one of the more romantic forms of music, but your liking it meaning that you are hiding romantic feelings – well, I consider that to be a huge leap to the possibly wrong conclusion!
I would say that this person is making a very broad generalization based on very little experience. It’s just like saying that you’re angry because you listen to rock music.
