If some political party says it’s ideology is:Progressive Liberalism or Classical Liberalism. In what issues will these ideologies differ compared to Liberalism?
PS:I appologise for my English, it’s not my native language.
They actually differ on wedge issues.
Kind of like conservative, who want to call everyone who doesn’t agree with their wedge issues, liberals.
Liberalism at its core is based on thinking equality in opportunity is the most important aspect of a free society, or at at least as important as democracy, freedom and order, which characterizes populists, libertarians and conservatives, in that order.
They all believe that if you work hard and make the right choices, you should be able to obtain the American dream, rather than being held back from environmental factors you were born into.
This belief is misconstrued by conservatives which like to refer to it as support of a nanny state, because they believe more in the fact that success is obtained by being born into it and if you aren’t…well tough luck…..but you are still personally responsible for where you are in life.
A belief that hasn’t really changed since believing that slaves where responsible for their position in life for being evil impure souls that were born as black people.
the media has indeed made it a completely meaningless term. but they use a lot of meaningless terms like “liberal” labels. i run everybody they say through my “filter.”
Clasical liberalism : Locke
Progressive liberalism: FDR
Liberalism: Adam Smith
This is semantics. What the conservatives mean is “we’re pure Americans and these other guys are pinko commie scum.”
There is little difference now-a-days. Those are terms that the media choose to use to define political candidates views.
As to your English, there is nothing to forgive. It is better than that of 99% of those who post here.
Off the top of my head I would suggest that the definitions have to do with how the word has been used historically.
Classical liberalism is more esoteric and having to do with a world view based on rationalism. It believes in personal freedom and favors a smaller government, and a free market economy.
Progressive liberalism has is the more left wing liberalism that prevails today. It’s about social justice. It favors a large government, often refered to derisively as a “Nanny State” or “Welfare State” to ensure economic equality to it’s subjects.
Liberalism is somewhere in between these two. They don’t want a welfare state, but they want the government to take care of the poor and the needy.
